On December 19, 2018, the PVA Board of Directors unanimously adopted a comprehensive strategy and set of recommendations to enhance the economic vitality of the Playhouse Village, building on last year’s Vision Framework process (see below). Key components of the strategy are detailed recommendations on parking management, enhancements to Colorado Boulevard, possible configurations for a public park at Union and El Molino, an updated brand identity, and much more. The PVA is now focused on implementation of these adopted recommendations, partnering with the City of Pasadena and others as needed to realize significant improvements in the Playhouse Village.
The PVA adopted a Vision Framework in January 2018 after a nine-month community process. The new document reinforces the vision of the Playhouse Village as Pasadena’s home for arts, culture and unique experiences, and identifies several catalytic projects, ideas and programs to be further refined and pursued. The Vision Framework serves as a guideline for several new initiatives including public realm enhancements, open space, parking solutions, event programming, and more.
On June 24, 2020, the Playhouse Village Association Board of Directors unanimously adopted the Playhouse Village Streetscapes Plan, prepared by Pasadena firm Moule & Polyzoides. This ambitious effort is the culmination of several years of planning for the transformation of three critical streets in Playhouse Village. With the recent installation of street dining areas, the implementation of the vision for Colorado Boulevard is now underway, and efforts will not only focus on making these changes permanent, but on turning efforts to North Lake and Mentor avenues to demonstrate the possible contributions of enhanced streetscapes and transformed places to further our economic recovery.
