Walktober: 99 Years and 11 Months of Route 66

October 17 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
In-Person Event RSVP at link

Walk Your Kicks along Pasadena’s Route 66 with author, historian, and Route 66 expert Scott Piotrowski

Scott Piotrowski, author of “Finding the End of the Mother Road: Route 66 in Los Angeles County,” and past president of the California Historic Route 66 Association, leads this urban explorative hike along the famed Mother Road. Covering most of the distance of Route 66 within the City of Pasadena, this walk will be a casual exploration of the Boulevard, it’s history, and its future.

Take this opportunity to learn about the history of the Mother Road and how it relates to Southern California and Pasadena history as well. Ask questions and add your own history to the story!

  • This walk will be approximately 3 hours and the distance will be 5 miles.
  • We’ll start at the west end of the city and will finish at the east end. We recommend making arrangements for transportation at the beginning or the end of the walk.
  • It is recommended to park near the endpoint (Lamanda Park) and take a combination of Foothill Transit 187 and Metro 180 to the start point at San Rafael Park. You can of course do the reverse as well if you are not a morning person!
  • Please bring water, snacks, sunscreen, appropriate walking shoes and a hat.

Bring your curiosity and questions about the Mother Road, comfortable shoes, and a willingness to sing the fabled song.

  • We encourage walking, biking or taking transit to all Walktober events. Check the Pasadena Transit and Metro websites for transit options. Google maps walking and biking directions can also be helpful.
  • City installed bike racks are available at or near the start location.
  • Street parking is available at or near the start location. Check the parking signs for restrictions or pay options.
  • Paid parking is not available in the area.

For accessibility information and requests, contact (626) 744-7311 or CSC@cityofpasadena.net.

Providing at least 72 hours advance notice will help ensure availability.
