The USC Pacific Asia Museum and artist Nick Dong invite you to participate in an intimate and healing artistic endeavor as part of Divine Immersion: The Experiential Art of Nick Dong.
This project emerged after a close friend of Dong’s lost her husband and all that remained was his wedding ring. Dong wanted to do something more meaningful and lasting than offering his sympathies. Given his background in metalsmithing, Dong offered to craft their rings together, forging a newly fashioned piece, bringing positivity and healing to her grief.
As part of USC PAM’s special exhibition, selected participants will be asked to bring two sentimental jewelry pieces or other personal objects to be “mended” together. Working collaboratively with the participant, Dong will use the stories and memories of their relationship to guide the final design, marrying the two pieces together to form a new personal item. Participants will be able to keep the newly mended pieces free of charge.
To apply to participate, please RSVP and fill out the following google form before July 5, 2021.
Please note that not all RSVP’s/applications will be selected to participate.
Nick Dong will be working on each piece in the gallery during the museum’s open hours.
