Happy Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
National Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latinx Americans. We invite you to celebrate by supporting Hispanic/Latinx-owned businesses and other organizations honoring this time in the Village.
A wonderful way to start is to savor the flavors of the region with a meal at restaurants like El Portal, El Metate Café, Yahaira’s Cafe, Trejo’s Tacos, and Anayas. Each restaurant brings a distinct palate of flavors from different regions of Latin America. Always an added experience, be sure to try their specialties featuring passed-down recipes and preparations.
Shopping at retailers like Mercadito Monarca helps support local businesses but also artisans and creators amongst many others too! Enrich yourself in cultura through the handiwork of local and international artisans. At Mercadito Monarca you can find one of a kind jewelry, clothing, books, art, and more.
Every Thursday from September 15 – October 15, Southern California Children’s Museum will be sharing books about Hispanic/Latinx artists, trailblazers, delicious foods, and more through their bilingual storytelling and activities! (Museum admission required.)
Enrich and grow your horizons with fantastic reads by Hispanic and Latinx authors at Vroman’s Bookstore. In stock are bestselling titles including L.A. Weather and Mexican Gothic, a collection of biographies and memoirs of prominent Hispanic and Latinx figures, as well as cookbooks featuring some of your favorite dishes.
We look forward to seeing you in the Village as you discover or visit your favorite Hispanic and Latinx-owned business. Thanks for supporting local!
