Samba\, Choro\, Baião and Bossa Nova are addressed in an acoustic set with vocal\, nylon guitar\, drums and percussion led by the Brazilian musicians Natália Spadini and Marcelo Bucater. The arrangements are well crafted and modern\, all played by Brazilian musicians who live in Pasadena\, what makes the music stay true to its Brazilian identity. \n  \n  \n  \n

Named for the Pasadena Playhouse\, a renowned live theater venue since 1925\, this area has been a cultural hub since the 1920s. It’s full of art installations\, murals\, and architecture representing a wide range of styles and time periods. \nOn this walking tour\, you’ll learn about one of Pasadena’s first Art Deco buildings\, the first parking structure in the city\, and Southern California’s largest and oldest independent bookstore. We’ll talk about how the arts helped shape this district from its beginnings up to the present day\, and how the village continues to support a vibrant\, dynamic group of local artists and entrepreneurs. \nWe’ll end our tour with “Pasadena Agua Fresca” featuring hibiscus and rose water that will be provided complimentary to all attendees\, courtesy of Anaya’s Restaurant. \nTotal walking distance will be approximately 1.5 miles. \nWe recommend wearing comfortable shoes and a light jacket (weather-dependent). \nPlease RSVP in advance so we have an idea of how many attendees to anticipate. \nThis event is a collaboration of Julia Long\, Council Member Jason Lyon\, and the Playhouse Village Association and is part of Walktober Pasadena 2023\, made possible by the City of Pasadena Department of Transportation.

DESCRIPTION:PASADENA\, Calif.— The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Union Street Protected Bikeway project along Union Street between Arroyo Parkway and Hill Avenue and along Holliston Avenue between Union Street and Cordova Street is scheduled for Saturday\, September 9\, 2023\, in front of City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. \nThe Union Street Protected Bikeway is a 1.5-mile-long two-way protected bike lane along Union Street and a 0.3-mile-long bike boulevard along Holliston Avenue with traffic signal and curb ramp improvements along both streets. This project is an opportunity for residents and visitors to reach Pasadena destinations such as Old Pasadena\, Playhouse Village\, Pasadena City College\, and CalTech on a bike. \nA ribbon-cutting ceremony and resource fair will take place on Saturday\, September 9\, 2023\, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Centennial Square. Local\, state\, and federal elected officials and dignitaries have been invited to speak at the event and join us in an inaugural bike ride. The morning’s events will begin at 8:30 a.m.\, with dignitaries speaking at 9:30 a.m. and a short inaugural bike ride on Union Street from City Hall to Playhouse Village Park and back\, immediately to follow. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse House Village team will be set up at Playhouse Village Park\, offering a community water station to all ride participants. DESCRIPTION:Playhouse Village sizzles this summer with the return of Jazz in the Park concert series presented by Ice House Comedy Club. The free concerts will take place every Sunday in June and July from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on the Van Halen Stage at the new Playhouse Village Park. Pick up a picnic from your favorite local restaurant and bring a blanket to enjoy music under the stars. \nJuly 30: Javier Vergara Quartet \nJavier Vergara is a saxophonist and flutist based in Los Angeles. Born in Mexico City into a musical family\, Javier was drawn to jazz at an early age. As a teenager\, he moved to Southern California and has been a fixture on the Los Angeles jazz scene ever since.
