SUMMARY:USC PAM: Free Second Sunday: Celebrating Himalayan Art & Culture
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the rich artistic and cultural traditions of the Himalayan region during this free\, family-friendly community event is presented in conjunction with two current exhibitions: Gateway to Himalayan Art\, a traveling exhibition organized and provided by the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art\, and We Are Connected: Highlights from the USC Pacific Asia Museum’s Himalayan Collection. \n  \nEnjoy interactive art-making workshops\, Storytime\, a tea tasting\, live cultural demonstrations\, and more. Visitors can also experience the creation of a traditional sand mandala by monks from Namgyal Monastery Dharma Center and learn about its artistic and spiritual significance through special opening and closing ceremonies. \n  \nThis program is in partnership with the Namgyal Monastery Dharma Center and UCLA. \n  \nSchedule of Activities \n11:30 AM — Storytime | Silk Road Gallery \n12:00–1 PM — Sand Mandala Closing Ceremony \n1–3 PM. — Butter Sculpture Art Activity \n1–3 PM — Sand Mandala Art Activity \n3 PM — Dance Performance and Workshop \n  \nRSVPs are strongly encouraged. Seating for the Sand Mandala Ceremony is not guaranteed\, and workshop space is limited. All programs are available on a first-come\, first-served basis.

DESCRIPTION:Step into an immersive world crafted by artist Gautam Rangan where projection\, spoken word\, and dance come together. Inspired by 16th Century Ragamala paintings\, this three-night series will transform the USC Pacific Asia Museum courtyard into a dynamic landscape of light\, sound\, sculpture\, and movement\, and will include performances\, conversation\, and exploration of the interactive installation. \nLiving Landscapes \nInstallation Art by Gautam Rangan\nCreated in collaboration with Kaya Press\nFeaturing work by authors Lalbihari Sharma\, Rajiv Mohabir\, Ansley Moon\, and Shadab Zeest Hashmi \nPerformance Program\nFeaturing Arpana Dance Company\nComposed by Aashray Harishankar\nWith tabla player Robin Sukhadia \nPROGRAM SCHEDULE \nRSVP for the events beginning on Thursday\, October 1\, at 10 a.m. \nOpening Night Performance\nRSVP\nThursday\, November 19\nDoors open at 7 p.m.; program begins at 7:30 p.m.\nLight refreshments will be served.\nThe immersive opening night features live poetry\, Bharatanatyam dance by Arpana Dance Company\, and interactive projections and sound.
