The on stage cast and improvising piano virtuoso work together as an ensemble to create songs with the intricate rhymes\, soaring counter melodies\, and complex themes that are all hallmarks of Sondheim’s work\, creating a wholly original\, thrilling musical revue so closely resembling Sondheim’s work\, you’d swear you knew the songs even though they’re completely made-up on the spot for every performance. \nPerformance is at Carrie Hamilton Theatre at Pasadena Playhouse.

Whether you’re a musical theater lover who “just doesn’t get Sondheim” or a certified fanatic who knows every word to every song\, this class is for you. \nSession #4: A Little Night Music \nMAY 6\, 2023\n12:00 PM \nLet’s take a closer look at Sondheim’s only bonafide hit\, “Send in the Clowns” as an example of prosody (how music and lyrics fit together). In addition\, the class will explore how a song sung by a minor character\, “The Miller’s Son\,” might articulate the theme of the show.

Regarded as one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era\, Clara exerted her influence over the course of a 61-year concert career. Amy Beach (1867 – 1944) was the first successful American female composer of large-scale art music. She was one of the first American composers to succeed without the benefit of European training.
