DESCRIPTION:The stories of rock musicians who die young are the thing of lore and legend. Accidents\, drug overdoses\, plane crashes–all have taken the lives of male rock stars still in their primes. But what became of their widowed brides? How did they survive a loss so great? What is it like to have to share your grief with millions of strangers? And where are these widows today? \nI Can’t Remember if I Cried is part music history\, part memoir\, based around interviews with rock widows conducted by Lori Tucker-Sullivan–who herself lost her husband in 2010. With each widow that Lori interviews\, she learns lessons in love\, forgiveness\, coping\, and moving on. The book is framed by the author’s own narrative to create a single thread that links the stories together to ultimately create a tale of how the author’s life is changed through her interactions with these amazing women.

DESCRIPTION:Join sound bath practitioner Sara Blumenkranz at Archetype Yoga to learn how sound lives in the body and how the spectrum of sound affects it. By fluctuating between different combinations of sound\, frequencies\, and vibrations\, a sound bath allows participants to fall into a deeply relaxed state. This helps put the body at ease while gently relaxing the mind into the ‘theta’ frequency. In this state\, brain wave rhythms slow down\, allowing for a deeper meditation experience and a deeper look into the inner essence of oneself. This greater introspection tunes in and brings clarity and awareness\, benefiting overall well-being. Dr. Nicolaides will share her research findings on LA’s changing suburban landscape and how Pasadena’s many suburban historic landscapes fit into the greater context\, touching on several topics including race relations and social themes. \nThis is a hybrid presentation available both in-person and via Zoom. The in-person lecture will take place at the historic Blinn House\, and a recording of the lecture will be shared with all event attendees. Those attending in person have the option of purchasing a ticket that includes Dr. Nicolaides’ book.

Having previously studied jazz in classes at LACM with instructors such as Tierney Sutton (6-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist)\, Sara Leib\, and Steve Billman (Grammy-winning bassist)\, she thought it was the perfect time to apply her performing skills out in Los Angeles. After Kira decided to form a jazz group\, Kira & The Major 3 was born! This LA-based jazz quartet has a repertoire of over 40 standards from American jazz\, Brazilian jazz\, and Afro-Cuban music. \n  \n

With the relocation of drummer Jeff Donavan\, bassist Larry Muradian has continued the legacy of straight-ahead jazz in the area. The quintet regularly performs at notable local venues\, including the Playhouse Village Summer Jazz Series\, the Pasadena Art Walk\, the Pasadena Playhouse Theater\, Boston Court\, and the Pasadena Central Library.
