SUMMARY:Archetype Yoga: Full Moon Intention Setting (Buck Moon)
DESCRIPTION:Archetype Yoga invites you to harness the lunary energy of July’s Buck Moon with a sound bath\, tarot card reading\, and tea! \nThis workshop starts with a sound bath composed of crystal bowls. You’ll have some time to journal and briefly discuss the monthly connection to the full moon. Then we’ll enjoy tea and join in on the fun for each participant to pull tarot cards. \nNew to a sound bath? Use these helpful tips: \n\nDress for comfort\nBe on time- at least 5-10mins. prior to the start time.\nTurn off your phone upon arrival\nPrepare your space- a yoga mat and 2-3 blankets will be provided but if you know you might be sensitive to light or want something specific to help you get comfortable\, feel free to bring.\nClear your mind- this is a form of meditation. Plan to relax\, follow the sound\, and stay awake.\nBe open to feelings that arise- Sound baths encourage you to drop into a meditative state that can bring up stuck emotions and sensations in the body.\nTake care of your body before and after the session. Use the restroom prior to and after the experience\, hydrate and get a good night’s rest.\n\nNew to pulling tarot cards? Here’s what to expect: \n\nCenter and ground yourself\nBe present with your energy\nThink of a question you want answers for the day or ask an open-ended question that can answer “yes” or “no”.\nCleanse the deck with sage or palo santo that is provided for you.\nShuffle the cards any way you want\nBe open to knowing when is the right time to draw a card.\nPlan to draw 1-3 cards\nTrust in the relationship that the cards pulled will offer an interpretation for you to gain insight. We’ll help you understand the cards and connect the pathway.\nNo questions will be asked but you are always welcome to illicit ideas\, share your thoughts\, and interact with participants to help you uncover the message.\nRemember you are in control of your destiny\, the cards are simply there to give you insight about what is intended to be revealed to you.

SUMMARY:Vroman's Bookstore: Melissa Mogollon\, in conversation with Greg Mania\, discusses Oye
DESCRIPTION:“Yes\, hi\, Mari. It’s me. I’m over my tantrum now and calling you back . . . But first–you have to promise that you won’t tell Mom or Abue any of this. Okay? They’ll set the house on fire if they find out . . .” \nStructured as a series of one-sided phone calls from our spunky\, sarcastic narrator\, Luciana\, to her older sister\, Mari\, this wildly inventive debut “jump-starts your heart in the same way it piques your ear” (Xochitl Gonzalez). As the baby of her large Colombian American family\, Luciana is usually relegated to the sidelines. But now she finds herself as the only voice of reason in the face of an unexpected crisis: A hurricane is heading straight for Miami\, and her eccentric grandmother\, Abue\, is refusing to evacuate. Abue is so one-of-a-kind she’s basically in her own universe\, and while she often drives Luciana nuts\, they’re the only ones who truly understand each other. So when Abue\, normally glamorous and full of life\, receives a shocking medical diagnosis during the storm\, Luciana’s world is upended. \nWhen Abue moves into Luciana’s bedroom\, their complicated bond intensifies. Luciana would rather be skating or sneaking out to meet girls\, but Abue’s wild demands and unpredictable antics are a welcome distraction for Luciana from her misguided mother\, absent sister\, and uncertain future. Forced to step into the role of caretaker\, translator\, and keeper of the devastating family secrets that Abue begins to share\, Luciana suddenly finds herself center stage\, facing down adulthood–and rising to the occasion. \nAs Luciana chronicles the events of her disrupted senior year of high school over the phone to Mari\, Oye unfolds like the most fascinating and entertaining conversation you’ve ever eavesdropped on: a rollicking\, heartfelt\, and utterly unique novel that celebrates the beauty revealed and resilience required when rewriting your own story.

SUMMARY:Vroman's Bookstore: Beth Hetland discusses Tender
DESCRIPTION:A psychological thriller about a woman obsessed with her vision for a picture-perfect\, curated life. \nCarolanne wanted a perfect wedding\, a perfect husband\, and a perfect family. She carefully performs her roles (gal pal\, bestie\, girlfriend\, wife\, and expectant mother) and sacrifices it completely in trying to enact agency over her life. Her desire to control the uncontrollable ultimately becomes her undoing. When things don’t go her way\, she exerts dominance over the one thing she does have total control over her body; until that “betrays” her. After suffering a horrible loss\, Carolanne spirals into a literal\, all-consuming delusion that will engross comic readers and horror aficionados alike. \nChicago cartoonist and educator Beth Hetland’s graphic novel debut is a brilliant psychological thriller that tears down the wall of a genre — body horror — so often identified with male creators. Heady and visceral\, Tender uses horrific tropes to confront women’s societal expectations of self-sacrifice despite those traditional roles often coming at the expense of female sexuality and empowerment.

SUMMARY:Vroman's Bookstore: Dr. Ramani Durvasula and Dr. Frank Anderson discuss their latest releases It’s Not You & To Be Loved
DESCRIPTION:**This is a non-ticketed event but an RSVP is strongly recommended\, which can be done for free through the Eventbrite window located at the bottom of the page. Also\, pre-order your copy and it will be ready for you at Will Call on the day of the event.  Any further questions can be directed to email@vromansbookstore.com  \nIt’s Not You\nIt’s not always easy to tell when you’re dealing with a narcissist. One day they draw you in with their confidence and charisma\, the next they gaslight you\, wreck your self-confidence\, and leave you wondering\, What could I have done differently? \nAs Dr. Ramani Durvasula reveals in It’s Not You\, the answer is absolutely nothing. Just as a tiger can’t change its stripes\, a narcissist won’t stop manipulating and invalidating you. To heal in the aftermath of their abuse and protect yourself from future harm\, you first have to accept that you are not to blame. \nHealing and thriving after or even during a narcissistic relationship can be challenging\, but it is possible. It’s Not You shows that the first step is to stop trying to change the narcissistic person\, stop blaming yourself\, and start giving yourself permission to foster your autonomy and sense of self outside of this relationship. \nTo Be Loved\nRarely does a trauma therapist disclose their own trauma history…yet it’s the untold\, brutally honest\, incredibly heartbreaking story of Dr. Frank Anderson that made him the world-renowned trauma expert he is today. \nKnown for his magnetic and radiant personality\, Frank spends his time training thousands of clinicians around the world on how to help clients with complex trauma make sense of their suffering. But underneath this charismatic exterior are his dark family secrets\, including the marks of child abuse from his father and the invisible scars of shame. \nIn To Be Loved\, Frank shares his confusing experience of growing up an outsider in a typical Midwestern Italian American home that was at one turn fiercely loving\, but at the same time unaccepting\, abusive\, and rife with secrets. \nAfter enduring six years of therapy as a child in the 1970s\, he was programmed to be something that he wasn’t for decades\, and became driven to create the perfect life—until it all fell apart. \nIt was only then that he realized resilience\, forgiveness\, and facing his trauma were the keys to living an authentic life—and finally knowing what it feels like to be loved.\nRamani Durvasula\, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist in California\, the founder and CEO of LUNA Education\, Training and Consulting\, and professor emerita of psychology at California State University Los Angeles. She is the New York Times Bestselling Author of It’s Not You: Identifying and Healing from Narcissistic People. She is also the author of multiple other books including “Don’t You Know Who I Am”: How to Stay Sane in the Era of Narcissism\, Entitlement and Incivility and Should I Stay or Should I Go: Surviving a Relationship With a Narcissist. She has lectured and trained therapists around the world on best practices on working with clients experiencing narcissistic abuse and has developed a 36 hour virtual training and certification program in conjunction with PESI to train clinicians on how to use an Antagonism-Informed approach with clients experiencing narcissistic relationships. Dr. Durvasula hosts a popular YouTube channel with over 1.6 million subscribers\, hosted the critically acclaimed podcast Navigating Narcissism\, and is a featured expert on the digital media platform MedCircle. She has also been widely involved in the governance of the American Psychological Association\, including the APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology and the APA Minority Fellowship Program.   Dr. Durvasula received her M.A.\, and Ph.D. degrees in clinical psychology from UCLA\, and completed her internship and post-doctoral training at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. She completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology\, with a minor in sociology in 1988 at the University of Connecticut.   She resides in Los Angeles\, CA. \nFrank Anderson\, MD\, is a world-renowned trauma treatment expert\, Harvard-trained psychiatrist\, and psychotherapist. He is the acclaimed author of Transcending Trauma\, upcoming memoir\, To Be Loved: A Story of Truth\, Trauma\, and Transformation\, and the coauthor of Internal Family Systems Skills Training Manual. As a global speaker on the treatment of trauma and dissociation\, he is passionate about teaching brain-based psychotherapy and integrating current neuroscience knowledge with the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of therapy. Dr. Anderson believes that traumatic events can have a lasting effect on the well-being and life of an individual and that addressing these events will help lead people down a pathway of healing and forgiveness. \nDr. Anderson is the co-founder of The Trauma Institute and Trauma Informed Media\, organizations that promote trauma awareness\, education\, integration\, and healing. He is a lead trainer at the IFS Institute under Richard Schwartz and has a long affiliation with Bessel van der Kolk and the Trauma Research Foundation.
