SUMMARY:Vroman's Bookstore: A Special Story Time with Deanna Kizis & Sam Boughton
DESCRIPTION:This is a virtual event and will take place on Crowdcast. Please register for FREE ahead of time to save your spot. \nEVENT LINK: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/v9qdaumb \nIn this laugh-out-loud book that begs readers to break the rules\, silliness and hilarity reign supreme! Perfect for fans of The Book with No Pictures. \nWait–are you reading this book? Even though the cover asked you not to? \nWell\, if you’re going to read it\, then you’ll have to follow the rules\, or you’re going to have WAY too much fun. And you don’t want to have FUN\, do you? DO YOU?! \nThat’s what I thought. So definitely\, positively\, DO NOT read this book! \nJoin along for zany antics\, silly sounds\, and endless fun in this breaks-the-fourth-wall book that will have readers coming back time and time again–regardless of what the title says. (Philomel Books) \nDeanna Kizis is very silly and would definitely read a book that said she shouldn’t. Her favorite things include pretending her daughter’s toothbrush can talk\, dipping warm chocolate cookies in cold milk\, and throwing dance parties with the dog. Deanna is so silly\, in fact\, that she once went to the grocery story wearing two different shoes by mistake\, and she always makes up silly songs that her kid thinks are kinda weird — but funny! So definitely DO NOT write to Deanna Kizis at hello@deannakizis.com so she can send you something kinda silly. And absolutely DO NOT follow her on Instagram\, @dkizis\, where you can see more of the silly stuff she does. And no matter what — please don’t read her book! \nSam Boughton (samboughton.co.uk) is an award-winning British artist and illustrator with degrees in illustration from Bristol UWE and the Cambridge School of Art. She is the author/illustrator ofHello\, Dinosaurs!andThe Extraordinary Gardener.Sam lives in Teignmouth\, UK. Follow her on Twitter @samillustrates and on Instagram @samboughton.

SUMMARY:Vroman's Bookstore: Matt Coyle discusses Blind Vigil
DESCRIPTION:This is a virtual event and will take place on Crowdcast. Please register for FREE ahead of time to save your spot. \nEVENT LINK: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/zkw0xxxy \nA friend arrested for murder. A vicious killer lurking in the shadows. A world of darkness. \nBlinded by a gunshot wound to the face while working as a private investigator nine months ago\, Rick Cahill is now sure of only one thing: he has to start a new life and leave his old one behind. \nHe’s still trying to figure out what that life is when his onetime partner\, Moira MacFarlane\, asks for his help on a case she’s taken for Rick’s former best friend. The case is simple and Moira only needs Rick for one interview\, but Rick is wary of waking sleeping demons. \nUltimately\, he goes against his gut and takes the case which quickly turns deadly. Rick’s old compulsion of finding the truth no matter the cost–the same compulsion that cost him his eyesight and almost his life–battles against his desire to escape his past. \nThe stakes are raised when Rick’s friend is implicated in murder and needs his help. Can he help the friend he no longer trusts while questioning his own lessened capabilities? His life depends on the answer as a shadowy killer lurks in the darkness. (Oceanview Publishing) \nMatt Coyle is the award-winning author of the best-selling Rick Cahill crime novels. He knew he wanted to be a crime writer when he was fourteen and his father gave him the simple art of murder by Raymond Chandler. But his foray into crime fiction was delayed for thirty years as he spent time managing a restaurant\, selling golf clubs for various golf companies\, and in national sales for a sports licensing company. Matt lives in San Diego with his yellow Lab\, Angus\, where he is writing his eighth crime novel. \nEditor Gary Phillips is a critically acclaimed author of mystery and graphic novels (The Darker Mask\, Bangers\, Violent Spring). Raised in South Central Los Angeles\, Phillips draws on his experiences from anti-police abuse community organizing and anti-apartheid activism in his work. He was the chair of the Eleanor Taylor Bland Crime Fiction Writers of Color committee\, and was president of the Private Eye Writers of America.

DESCRIPTION:This is a virtual event and will take place on Crowdcast. Please register for FREE ahead of time to save your spot. \nEVENT LINK: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/p3x8axdc \nWhen her favorite true crime podcast host goes missing\, an adrift young woman sets out to investigate and plunges headfirst into the wild backcountry of Northern California and her own dangerous obsession. \nSera loves true crime podcasts. So when Rachel\, her favorite podcast host\, goes missing\, Sera knows it’s time to act. Rachel has always taught her to trust her instincts. \nSera follows the clues hidden in the episodes to an isolated ranch outside Rachel’s small hometown to begin her search. She’s convinced her investigation will make Rachel so proud. But the more Sera digs into this unfamiliar world\, the more off things start to feel. Because Rachel is not the first woman to vanish from the ranch\, and she won’t be the last… Rachel did try to warn her. SUMMARY:Vroman's: Jedidiah Jenkins in conversation with Nicole Richie
DESCRIPTION:This is a virtual event  ticketed event and will take place on Crowdcast. Tickets available below. \nThe New York Times bestselling author of To Shake the Sleeping Self delivers a moving reflection on the hidden\, sometimes difficult topics we must consider in order to live an authentic life–ego\, love\, family\, work–for anyone seeking a companion on the road to understanding. \nWe wake up atop the dirt of our childhoods with a shovel in our hands. In our pocket is a crumpled note with conspicuously familiar handwriting. It says\, “Good luck.” \nWe aren’t born into a self. It is created without our consent\, built out of our childhoods\, our circumstances\, and chance. But in the busyness of adult life\, we rarely have time to think clearly about the questions that matter most: Who am I? What am I made of? How much of how I act boils down to avoiding the things that make me feel small? We bury these questions\, but they drive our behavior far more than we give them credit for. They are our puppet masters. \nWriting with the passion and clarity that made his debut\, To Shake the Sleeping Self\, a national bestseller\, Jedidiah Jenkins brings together new and old writings to explore the eight themes all of us face as we find our way in life: ego\, family\, home\, friendship\, love\, work\, death\, the soul. \nAs he examines the experiences that shape us into who we are\, Jenkins leads readers in a wide-ranging conversation about finding fulfillment in the people and places around us and discovering the courage to show our deepest selves to the world. (Convergent Books) \nThis event ticket includes a hardcover copy of Like Streams to the Ocean\, mailed to you after the event\, as well as online access to the event for your household. You will receive a link and password to attend the Crowdcast event on the afternoon of Monday\, February 1st. \nPlease note: The shipping amount included in the ticket price is for domestic shipping only. There is an additional $17.00 charge required if shipping internationally.

Through conversations with some of the world’s most powerful and interesting women–including Jacinda Ardern\, Hillary Rodham Clinton\, Christine Lagarde\, Michelle Bachelet\, and Theresa May– Women and Leadership explores gender bias and asks why there aren’t more women in leadership roles. \nJulia Gillard was the 27th Prime Minister of Australia\, serving from 2010 to 2013. \nNgozi Okonjo-Iweala was Nigeria’s Minister of Finance from 2003 to 2006 and from 2011 to 2015\, and Foreign Minister in 2006.
