Learn how to transfer images to a carving block\, carving techniques\, and ways to use block printing as creative self-expression. No prior experience is necessary. \nMaterials included \nTickets include complimentary admission to the museum \nMore About the Artist: \nStephanie Mercado is an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Boyle Heights\, Los Angeles. Her artwork is centered on the workforce\, manual labor\, and empowerment. Her imagery is eclectic\, inspired by lived experiences\, cultural references\, and the fusion of traditional printmaking with experimental practices. Mercado’s print-based collages are composed of relief carvings printed on handmade colored papers. SUMMARY:USC PAM: Stenciling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn the history of stenciling and create your own artwork using different stenciling techniques with printmaking artist Kiyomi Fukui Nannery. We will discuss the idea of layering for creating an edition of identical prints and for creating variations of one-of-a-kind prints (monoprints). No prior experience is necessary. \nMaterials included \nTickets include complimentary admission to the museum.  \nMore About the Artist: \nKiyomi Fukui Nannery\, b. 1988\, was born in the U.S. and grew up in Japan as a daughter of a Zainichi Korean father and a Japanese mother. Her practice often deals with personal narratives and history exploring emotional internal landscapes. Her works aim to find beauty in difficulties and trauma\, ultimately yielding healing experiences. In addition to producing print-based artworks\, her works often involve participatory performance and fiber arts\, such as tatting and natural dye. At the core of her practice is an attempt to capture transient intimacy\, irrespective of media. She received an MFA in Printmaking from California State University Long\, Beach and a BFA in Graphic Design from La Sierra University. Her recent exhibitions include Seeds of Contemplation\, Biola University\, La Mirada\, CA; Yearning\, Boston Court Pasadena\, Pasadena\, CA; and Conversation on Conflict\, Painting and Sculpture Outpost\, Marysville\, CA\, and Flux Art Space\, Long Beach\, CA.
