DESCRIPTION:The Playhouse Village Association and Mercadito Monarca Cultural Arts Shop present Día de los Muertos Festival in Playhouse Village\, a FREE full day event celebrating the ancient tradition of Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).  \nDía de Los Muertos Festival brings locals and visitors together to celebrate life and the lives of loved ones who have passed at this create a vibrant\, entertaining\, cultural ex-perience in Playhouse Village. Día de los Muertos Festival brings back its unique mix of community altars\, music\, artisan vendors and art workshops in a free\, family-friendly event. Mercadito Monarca transforms Arcade Lane into a beautiful Mexican Zócalo that comes alive with performances of dance and music featuring Danza Azteca Yankuititl showcasing Aztec dances and traditional costumes. The showcase contin-ues with Ballet Folklorico group Danza Artes de Mexico performing an array of folk dances from across various regions of Mexico. Guests of all ages can join in the cele-bration with face painting\, arts & crafts activities\, story time\, and shopping amongst ar-tisan craft vendors.

Join us for these free\, family-friendly programs: \n\nDia de los Muertos Festival\nOctober 24th\, 1:00pm to 7:00pm\nArcade Lane (696 E Colorado Blvd)\nThe Dia de los Muertos festival in Playhouse Village is back and bigger than ever! See Arcade Lane transform into a beautiful Mexican Zócalo where you can hear music and see live performances featuring Aztec dance\, ballet folklorico\, mariachi\, DJ set by La Junta and more. Families can also enjoy arts & crafts activities\, tour an altar exhibit in the neighborhood\, shop our artisan market\, see chalk artists at work\, play fun games\, and more. \nBoston Court Pasadena (70 N Mentor Ave)\nBoston Court joins the Playhouse Village and Mercadito Monarca in celebration of Día de los Muertos with live performances in their parking lot from Manny Giella and his band\, and youth slam poets from Get Lit. Our ofrenda\, created by a local artist Denise Esparza and dedicated to loved ones lost by our community\, will also be on view in the lobby throughout the afternoon. \nFull schedule of performances and artists will be announced soon. \n\nAltars Exhibit\nOctober 24 – November 3\nExperience and learn about the traditions of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and stroll through ofrendas or altars located throughout Playhouse Village. Objects important to lost loved ones\, such as favorite foods\, mementos\, and pictures\, are collected and incorporated into these elaborate displays that include sugar skulls\, candles\, flowers\, papel picado (paper cutouts) and other decorations.
