SUMMARY:Vroman's: Sutton Foster\, in conversation with Jennifer Garner
DESCRIPTION:Event location: Pasadena Presbyterian Church located at 585 E. Colorado Blvd\, Pasadena\nDoors open at 6:00pm; Event starts at 7:00pm.\nVaccinations and masks are required for all audience members attending this event. (more info below) \n  \nVroman’s presents Sutton Foster discussing Hooked: How Crafting Saved My Life \nFrom the 2-time Tony Award-winner and the star of TV’s Younger\, funny and intimate stories and reflections about how crafting has kept her sane while navigating the highs and lows of family\, love\, and show business (and how it can help you\, too). \nWhether she’s playing an “age-defying” book editor on television or dazzling audiences on the Broadway stage\, Sutton Foster manages to make it all look easy. How? Crafting. From the moment she picked up a cross stitch needle to escape the bullying chorus girls in her early performing days\, she was hooked. Cross stitching led to crocheting\, crocheting led to collages\, which led to drawing\, and so much more. Channeling her emotions into her creations centered Sutton as she navigated the significant moments in her life and gave her tangible reminders of her experiences. Now\, in this charming and poignant collection\, Sutton shares those moments\, including her fraught relationship with her agoraphobic mother; a painful divorce splashed on the pages of the tabloids; her struggles with fertility; the thrills she found on the stage during hit plays like Thoroughly Modern Millie\, Anything Goes\, and Violet; her breakout TV role in Younger; and the joy of adopting her daughter\, Emily. Accompanying the stories\, Sutton has included crochet patterns\, recipes\, and so much more! \nWitty and poignant\, Hooked will leave readers entertained as well as inspire them to pick up their own cross stitch needles and paintbrushes. (Grand Central Publishing) \nThis ticketed event will take place at Pasadena Presbyterian Church located at 585 E. Colorado Blvd\, Pasadena. Ticket includes one entry plus one signed copy of Hooked.  \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Vroman's: Congressman Adam Schiff\, in conversation with Jason Alexander
DESCRIPTION:Event location: Pasadena Presbyterian Church located at 585 E. Colorado Blvd\, Pasadena\nDoors open at 3:00pm; Event starts at 4:00pm.\nVaccinations and masks are required for all audience members attending this event. (more info below) \n  \nIn the years leading up to the election of Donald Trump\, Congressman Adam Schiff had already been sounding the alarm over the resurgence of autocracy around the world\, and the threat this posed to the United States. But as he led the probe into Donald Trump’s Russia and Ukraine-related abuses of presidential power\, Schiff came to the terrible conclusion that the principal threat to American democracy now came from within. \nIn Midnight in Washington\, Schiff argues that the Trump presidency has so weakened our institutions and compromised the Republican Party that the peril will last for years\, requiring unprecedented vigilance against the growing and dangerous appeal of authoritarianism. The congressman chronicles step by step just how our democracy was put at such risk\, and traces his own path to meeting the crisis–from serious prosecutor\, to congressman with an expertise in national security and a reputation for bipartisanship\, to liberal lightning rod\, scourge of the right\, and archenemy of a president. Schiff takes us inside his team of impeachment managers and their desperate defense of the constitution amid the rise of a distinctly American brand of autocracy. \nDeepening our understanding of prominent public moments\, Schiff reveals the private struggles\, the internal conflicts\, and the triumphs of courage that came with defending the republic against a lawless president–but also the slow surrender of people that he had worked with and admired to the dangerous immorality of a president engaged in an historic betrayal of his office. Schiff’s fight for democracy is one of the great dramas of our time\, told by the man who became the president’s principal antagonist. It is a story that began with Trump but does not end with him\, taking us through the disastrous culmination of the presidency and Schiff’s account of January 6\, 2021\, and how the anti-democratic forces Trump unleashed continue to define his party\, making the future of democracy in America more uncertain than ever. (Random House) \n“If there is still an American democracy fifty years from now\, historians will be very grateful for this highly personal and deeply informed guide to one of its greatest crises. We should be grateful that we can read it now.”—Timothy Snyder\, #1 New York Times bestselling author of On Tyranny \n“Although he failed to secure the conviction of Donald Trump in the first impeachment trial\, Adam Schiff has now vanquished him forever in these pages. This book will stand as the touchstone of truth against any attempts to distort or rewrite this crucial piece of history. Congressman Schiff has restored our faith in the nobility of public service and has shown what one dedicated patriot—courageous\, intelligent\, and fearless—can still accomplish even in a divided country.”—Ron Chernow\, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Washington: A Life and Alexander Hamilton  \n“When American democracy faced a near-death experience\, Adam Schiff served as an able guardian\, protecting our nation from enemies foreign and domestic. Schiff not only provides riveting details in this compelling account\, he delivers a much-needed warning about the threats facing America from within and an urgent how-to guide for preserving our nation.”—Stacey Abrams\, founder of Fair Fight Action  \n  \nThis ticketed event will take place at Pasadena Presbyterian Church located at 585 E. Colorado Blvd\, Pasadena. Ticket includes one entry plus one copy of Midnight in Washington. \nQuestions? Email us at email@vromansbookstore.com \n  \nCOVID-19 EVENT SAFETY GUIDELINES \nWe love in-person events and have missed everyone so much!
