Presenters will include John Dean\, Pasadena Heritage Board Member\, and John Roth\, a former docent and presenter from the recently-closed Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard\, California. An expert on Art Deco-designed automobiles from the 1920s to 1940s\, Roth will present on the automobile history in Pasadena and the unique attributes of the West Coast that shaped our transportation history and spurred the growth of the automobile industry in Pasadena. \nPasadena has a rich automobile history and several notable landmarks related to Pasadena’s car culture are still present today along Green Street and Colorado Boulevard. Join us for a lecture on the elements of Art Deco and Streamline Modern design in architecture and beyond\, and how these design elements carried over into everything from household appliances to automobiles! \nYou are invited to join us in person or virutally for this special program! The lecture will be livestreamed via Zoom and a recording will be made available to ticket holders shortly after the event.

While you enjoy the music on your picnic blanket\, indulge in delicious taco plates and more from Anaya’s Restaurant\, or bring a picnic from your favorite local restaurant. \nFeatured Artists \nLittle Brazil – Little Brazil was born with the idea of revisiting the defining moments of Brazilian music from a contemporary perspective. Samba\, Choro\, Baião and Bossa Nova are addressed in an acoustic set with vocal\, nylon guitar\, drums and percussion led by the Brazilian musicians Natália Spadini and Marcelo Bucater. The arrangements are well crafted and modern\, all played by Brazilian musicians who live in Pasadena\, what makes the music stay true to its Brazilian identity. \n  \n  \n  \n

Dr. Anderson believes that traumatic events can have a lasting effect on the well-being and life of an individual and that addressing these events will help lead people down a pathway of healing and forgiveness. \nDr. Anderson is the co-founder of The Trauma Institute and Trauma Informed Media\, organizations that promote trauma awareness\, education\, integration\, and healing. He is a lead trainer at the IFS Institute under Richard Schwartz and has a long affiliation with Bessel van der Kolk and the Trauma Research Foundation. His relatives were among the first Mexican immigrants to settle there–in the only neighborhood where Mexicans were allowed to live. The city’s majority was then White\, and Compton would shift to a predominantly Black community over Al’s youth. Compton in My Soul weaves Al’s personal story with histories of this now-infamous place and illuminates a changing US society–the progress and backslides over half a century for racial equality and educational opportunity. \nEntering UCLA in the mid-1960s\, Camarillo was among the first students of color\, one of only forty-four Mexican Americans on a campus of thousands.
