The exquisite balance of sounds\, storytelling\, and sometimes flavors\, invites you to a new experience of live concerts. Rivas’ multi-style career has brought him to share the stage with world renown artists such as latin jazz legend Paquito D’Rivera\, Yo-Yo Ma\, and jazz virtuosic guitarist Julian Lage. He has performed at a wide range of international music venues and festivals such as Caramoor Music Festival\, Tanglewood\, Carnegie Hall\, Newport and Montreal Jazz Festivals\, the Barbican in England\, Sejong Center in South Korea\, and Teatro Colon in Argentina\, among many others. Her unique voice has captivated composers worldwide\, resulting in over 60 premiere performances. She has sung with the GRAMMY-winning Partch ensemble\, Bang on a Can All-Stars\, and musicians of the Los Angeles Philharmonic\, for film scores including The Unholy and the Conjuring series\, and recordings on Centaur Records and Sony Classical\, among others. Kirsten holds a DMA from UC San Diego and MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. She teaches voice at San Bernardino Valley College and UC Riverside.

Founded in 2015 by violinist Adrianne Pope and violist Linnea Powell\, Aperture Duo actively commissions diverse new works from emerging and established composers to expand the violin and viola duo repertoire. Performance credits include the LA Phil’s Noon to Midnight Festival\, Tuesdays @ Monk Space\, the Main Stage at the Carlsbad Music Festival\, Music at Boston Court\, L.A. Signal Lab\, Synchromy\, Nadia Sirota’s podcast Living Music\, Brooklyn’s Home Audio Concert Series\, UC Santa Barbara Summer Music Festival\, the Window Concert Series at the Craft in America Center\, and the Hear Now Music Festival. Aperture Duo has been in residence at California Institute of the Arts\, Avaloch Farm Music Institute\, Las Positas College\, Black House SoCal New Music Workshop\, Eureka! Musical Minds of California Graduate Student Conference\, and has designed educational concerts with Wild Up and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. We understand that life is a hustle for everyone (us included!)\, and we want to provide a touch of magic in a world that is often a challenging grind. DESCRIPTION:Local Jazz legend Nolan Shaheed joins his brilliant trumpet stylings with his dedicated band of great musicians to share a program of hot Jazz on the Boston Court Pasadena stage for the first time. \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nNolan Shaheed has achieved his world class standing in two varied genres. He holds a world record in running and has musical talent that has taken him all over the world playing trumpet to back-up remarkable performers notably Marvin Gaye\, Stevie Wonder\, Diana Ross and Phil Collins. He has also performed and toured with: Eddie Harris\, Teddy Edwards\, Duke Ellington Orchestra\, Lionel Hampton Orchestra\, Jeannie & Jimmy Cheatham and Francisco Aquabea. Notwithstanding\, Shaheed is in demand as a studio musician and has recently released the album\, Lamentations From The Middle Passage. \nBorn in 1949\, this California native knew he had athletic talent at an early age. Before entering competitive track as a high school sophomore\, Shaheed enjoyed beating all-comers in around-the-block races. He was also involved in basketball\, baseball and football during his formative years as a member of the Pasadena Boys Club. During the time that Shaheed excelled as a high school track star\, he was also making a name for himself as an outstanding trumpeter. He was named to the All-City-Band and All-State-Band. Thankfully\, his passion for the trumpet was recognized by his mother\, who permitted him to relinquish the violin at age 12 and begin his remarkable dedication to the trumpet. He credits his musical shift to listening to recordings of Louie Armstrong\, the great jazz trumpeter. \nShaheed had the speed to qualify for the Olympic trials as a runner but did not pursue this path. He recognized there was not the money in track that his musical talent would garnish. Therefore\, running became an avocation and a supplement to his musical career.
